For the first time in over 25 years, the number of unemployed in Poland falls below a million. The number of unemployed fell by as much as 595 thousand people since 2015, which gives less than 44% less unemployed than just a few years ago.
Among the official information we can also read that for several years in Poland the unemployment rate has been below the average in the European Union. As emphasized by the Ministry of Family and Labor (Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy), this information is noteworthy, because when Poland joined the EU structures it had the highest unemployment rate from all member countries. The unemployment rate in Poland is currently only 3.8%, while in most Europe it is observed above 6% and 7%.
As for the number of active people on the labor market, it has increased by as much as 400,000 and currently amounts to over 16.5 million people. An increase in the number of employees for an indefinite period of up to 10 million is also observed, which is a documented increase of 1 million employees.
The reasons for the decrease in the unemployed include new jobs that have been created recently. In 2018, as many as one and a half million new job offers were submitted, which is much more than in previous years. However, this is not the only good news.
The salaries of Polish employees are increasing – more precisely by about 7% a year. It is a consequence of modernization and changes on the labor market in Poland. The minimum salary also increased and increased from PLN 1850 to 2000 in 2017. The minimum wage increased by PLN 100 in 2018 and finally amounted to as much as PLN 2250 gross in 2019. In short, this means raising the minimum wage by PLN 500 over the past four years. This is almost a third more than in 2015, and this is just the beginning! The government has already announced that it plans to raise the minimum wage to PLN 2,450 in 2020. In addition, two years ago a minimum hourly rate was introduced, which is currently almost PLN 15 and is still growing.
